The Lodge Enameled Casserole is a classic way to both prepare and serve memorable meals, offering a flawless pairing of form and function. Its 3.6 quart capacity and low, wide shape make it perfect for baking favorites, roasting meats, or even cooking paella. The cookware is great for cooking, marinating, refrigeration, and freezing.
The color porcelain enamel on cast iron can be used on a variety of cooktop surfaces, including gas, electric, ceramic, and induction. It can also be used in the oven, but is not recommended for outdoor grills or open flames, and should not be used in microwaves.
The Lodge Color Porcelain Enamel on Cast Iron cookware is cast from molten iron in individual sand molds. The porcelain surface eliminates the need to season cast iron. Vegetable oil or cooking spray should be used for better cooking and easier cleaning.
The cast iron vessel offers superior heat distribution and retention, evenly heating the bottom, sidewalls, and even the lid. The tightly fitting lid seals in moisture, and the excellent heat retention reduces the amount of energy needed for cooking.
Two layers of very hard, glossy porcelain enamel make the cookware chip-resistant and easy to clean. Wooden, silicone, or nylon utensils should be used, as metal can scratch the porcelain. The lid knob is oven safe to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, and the black rim on the pot is matte porcelain, not exposed cast iron.
The hygienic porcelain enamel is non-reactive with food. Although dishwasher safe, hand washing with warm soapy water is recommended to preserve the cookware's original appearance. The complete item measures 14.4" x 12.55" x 3.4".
The Lodge Covered Oval Casserole is a versatile enameled cast iron classic, perfect for broiling, braising, baking, or roasting in the oven up to 500 Degrees F. The porcelain enamel on cast iron is a result of a process where a particulate of glass, called frit, is applied to the cast iron vessel and then baked at high temperatures between 1200 and 1400° F, forming a bond that is heat tolerant and impervious to water and other consumables.
The smooth porcelain enameled interior minimizes sticking, promotes caramelization, and resists staining. Although the cookware is dishwasher safe, hand washing with warm soapy water and a nylon scrub brush is recommended to keep it in top condition.
The cast iron vessel's superior heat distribution and retention, along with the tightly fitting lid, evenly heats the bottom and sidewalls, sealing in moisture for delicious pot roasts, stews, or large batches of beans. This heat retention also reduces the amount of energy needed for cooking.
